El ritmo de la tierra
2011 Catalan & Spanish dv 58 min

Google earth is a brilliant way to travel around the world and explore the area you want to visit by air. Nowadays it is even possible to walk around the streets in the cities. Nevertheless a small town like Camallera is approachable up untill a couple of 150 meters above the earth before the images get unfocused. With my camera attached to a kite I dived these last 150 meters in order to end up in Camallera.

#

The kite is a toy everybody knows from his or her youth. Seeing it, it always provokes a smile. It breaks the ice and is a playful way to get in touch with people. That is the way I aproached the town of Camallera. Wherever the camera landed I found a way to attach it to another medium of transportation.

#

By attaching the camera to a kite, a bicycle or a dog, the trip is a aural and visual exploration of life in a small Catalan town.

#

With topshots and extreme close-ups, sometimes in slow motion I explored human and natural life in town, and tried to seek the contrast between the so called old traditional tranquility and the contemporary velocity.

#

While following seven passionate inhabitants with the camera, a few narrative threads emerged which accentuate the fact that, in despite of all the changes caused by modern life, tourism, and even a high speed line, life has it's own rythm.
