God is a Miller
18 min 2009 DV
The small village Schellinkhout is changing rapidly from an agrarian community into a residential paradise for people from the city. Voorland, a theatrical journey with film incorporating live music, tells about the changes in the community and reveals the back of the idyll.
5eKwartier presented Voorland in Schellinkhout for the official opening of the theatre festival Karavaan in Noord Holland
God is a Miller is an Audio Visual installation & part of Voorland. The music for God is a Miller was composed by Tommie Freke and was performed live by 5 musicians, while the visual component was projected in the local church. Fat boys were provided to comfortably seat the audience.
In the idyllic small town called Schellinkhout, apparently nothing is wrong. The sun is shining, a fruit grower toils in his orchard, bees are very busy flying through the shiny white blossoms seeking out nectar, heavy trucks drive up and down the dike, a man is looking for treasures with his metal detector, a kitesurfer is performing stunts on the waves in the IJsselmeer, and a cow in labour is lying on the grass. But what influence does the Miller have, once he starts up his mill?
